While the Roman Catholic Church moves to make Mother Teresa a saint, discussions continue about allegations of brutality. Books and articles like the one linked above allege she refused painkillers, sanitation, sterile needles and privacy during defecation to those unlucky enough to be treated in her medical facilities. Yet when she needed medical care, she came to the US to be treated with dignity in a modern, sanitary facility.

She wrote about how beautiful a gift suffering is to the world. She regarded poverty similarly, failing to take action to alleviate poverty while saying this, too, is a gift to the world.
